ABOUT THE PLACE

Baranof Island, and Sitka, Alaska welcomes one with a swath of rugged peaks that lean down to meet pristine coastal waters dotted with barrier islands. In this temperate rainforest, visitors will be awestruck by the vast forests and striking array of green that can only occur in a place with an abundance of clean air and clean water. These forests comprise a part of the Tongass National Forest - the nation’s largest national forest which stretches over 17 million acres and includes extraordinary places that you can discover with Equinox - places like the West Chichagof-Yakobi Wilderness Area, the South Baranof Wilderness area, a number of hot springs, including the renowned Baranof Warm Springs, and more.

Our small seaside community of Sitka is home to about 8,000 year round residents. That number swells each summer to include seasonal workers, independent travelers and cruise ship passengers. Sitka serves as our home port and here you can find great local restaurants, galleries, shops and hiking - all within the charming and vibrant, historic downtown.

This place is home and we want to show you the best places to explore, the space to live authentically and the chance to experience Alaska the way it should be.

CONSERVATION

We commit 1% of our annual revenues to the Sitka Conservation Society, a grassroot conservation organization founded in 1967. The SCS protects the natural environment of the Tongass National Forest while supporting the development of economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable communities within Southeast Alaska.
